    Thumbs up Ropley Signal Box - Watercress Line

    Forum readers may like to know that the long awaited signal box at Ropley Station of The Mid-Hants Railway ( which came from Netley on the Southampton - Fareham line ) will be commissioned during the weekend of 13 and 14 October 2007. The signal box will replace the use of the current ground frame. During the weekend the public trains will still operate but to a different timetable than published. I am booking clerk at Alfresford on Sunday 14th. October and if any readers are in the area please come and introduce yourself. Trains will depart Alresford on Sunday at 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, 15.08 and 16.10. Trains will depart Alton at 11.08, 12.08, 13.08, 14.08, 15.11 and 16.11.

    Just a note to say, contrary to my previous post, that I am unable to be at Alresford tomorrow - Sunday 14th October 2007 - due to illness. Apologies to any reader who may have arranged to visit. However, the services will still be running as per special timetable.

    hi, can you tell me is the MHR running during the winter, as I am looking for somewhere to go during the long winter months, and as freezing on platforms is no longer desireable, it would make a change.

    Default Winter Timetable

    The Mid-Hants Railway is closed during November 2007

    Open for Santa Specials only - December Saturdays and Sundays plus 21st and 24th.

    Open for all public - 26th December 2007 - one steam and one dmu in service.

    29th December 2007 - Forces on Leave theme day. Steam Service.
    30th December 2007 - Normal steam service.

    1st January 2008 - Normal steam and dmu service - in connection with a free bus service between Winchester City Centre and Alresford station. Also some other local free vintage village bus services in operation from Alresford Station. ( There is an annual bus running day based at Winchester all day - excellent event if you have never been to it! ) .

    In January and February 2008 the Mid-Hants Railway will be running Weekends Only.

    2nd and 3rd February 2008 - Hampshire Diesel Multiple Unit Service to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the closure in 1973.
